P.R. Veterans Cook and Schmid Form New Agency

The recently launched Cook & Schmid Public Relations offers strategic public relations, marketing and advertising to clients in a wide range of industries and government agencies. Cook & Schmid is a minority-owned business.

Partners Rick Cook and Jon Schmid were previously with Gable-Cook-Schmid Public Relations, San Diego’s seventh-largest public relations agency, which restructured after five years of steady growth.

Cook & Schmid’s clients include San Bernardino County, The San Diego Rescue Mission, Forward Ventures, M Ship Co., Bisnar and Chase, Hichborn Consulting Group, Imaging Health Services, Plymouth Health and Alvarado Hospital.

Through its strategic partnership with The New West Agency, Cook & Schmid also offers graphic design, production and advertising. New West and the principals of Cook & Schmid partnered for the past two-and-a-half years on the public education campaign for the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority’s Site Selection program. 

Rick Cook has more than two decades experience in public relations, having counseled public relations clients in financial services, technology, biotechnology, health care, hospitality, real estate, automotive and other industries. He is particularly skilled in media relations, investor relations, corporate communications, community relations, branding and reputation management programs.

Prior to entering the public relations arena, Jon Schmid worked for more than a decade as a professional journalist at a number of publications, including the Chicago Sun-Times, one of the nation’s largest metropolitan daily newspapers. As a journalist, Jon was twice nominated for the Pulitzer Prize.
