NORTH ISLAND CREDIT UNION TO SPONSOR CHAMBER’S

ANNUAL SMALL BUSINESS AWARDS LUNCHEON

North Island Credit Union is sponsoring the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Awards Luncheon and the “Excellence in the Work Environment” award for the fifth consecutive year.  The annual event is scheduled for Thursday, June 28, 2007 at the San Diego Marriott & Marina Hotel.

The San Diego-based credit union honored ProfitLine for workplace excellence in 2003, Sullivan International Group in 2004, Althea Technologies in 2005 and Inter@ctive, Inc. in 2006. This year’s award will once again recognize a company that that goes above and beyond by placing a high value on corporate practices, employee recognition, services and support programs as demonstrated by organizational achievements.

North Island Credit Union’s own quest for workplace excellence began more than 14 years ago, with the adoption of the National Malcolm Baldrige criteria as a template to improve its organizational effectiveness and to reflect its commitment to delivering ever-improving value to its members.  The criteria are built upon a distinct set of interrelated core values and concepts that are embedded beliefs and behaviors found in high performing organizations. 

North Island’s efforts to attain workplace excellence have received a lot of attention. The California Council for Excellence (CCE) recently awarded North Island Credit Union the Governor’s Award for Performance Excellence.  The Governor’s Award is reserved for top California Awards for Performance Excellence (CAPE) program recipients that demonstrate consistently superior performance results and organizational excellence in accordance with the national Malcolm Baldrige criteria.

North Island Credit Union is the only financial institution in California to be honored with the Governor’s Award recognition.  California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger acknowledged the credit union with “heartfelt congratulations to North Island Credit Union for receiving top honors today. Your innovation and adherence to the highest standards are exactly what our state needs to reclaim its promise and prosperity.”

In December 2004, North Island was named a Gold-level Eureka Award winner in CCE’s CAPE program.  The award is given to companies and organizations that demonstrate continuous improvement and best-in-class performance in several key business areas.
