The Union-Tribune
Newspaper In Education
The San Diego Union-Tribune’s Newspaper In Education program was founded in 1961 to promote literacy and excellence in local education. NIE enhances the classroom experience by providing newspapers, educational contests and supporting curriculum guides to teachers at no cost. Activities and curriculum are designed to meet California State Academic Content Standards in subjects including math, language arts and science. A study conducted by the Newspaper Association of America shows that students who used newspapers in the classroom in addition to textbooks had an increase in reading skills of up to four grade levels. With the generosity of corporate sponsors and individual donations, NIE delivered 4.8 million newspapers last year to schools in San Diego County and the surrounding communities including Baja California.
Corporate sponsors of NIE receive highly visible recognition both in the schools and in The San Diego Union-Tribune. Support a literacy program with proven results while obtaining public acknowledgement for your generosity. NIE’s partnership with The San Diego Education Fund allows donations to be tax-deductible.
