Long Term Recovery in Southern California:

Applying Lessons Learned from Around the Nation

Chamber members are invited to attend this long-term disaster recovery forum on Thursday, January 17, 2008, and hear from experts from around the nation on San Diego wildfire recovery.  The forum will be held at The Westin San Diego, at 400 West Broadway in Downtown San Diego.  Breakfast will begin at 8:30am, and the program will run from 9:00am to 2:00pm.  There is no cost to attend.  This forum is in partnership with the newly established disaster coalition of San Diego County chambers of commerce, and will explore how businesses can work together with local chambers to mitigate the impact of future natural disasters.

 Hear presentations from:

- Ruben Barrales, President and CEO of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, who will speak about the current wildfire recovery efforts in Southern California, their impact on the business community, and how you can play a role.

- Jeff Finkle, President and CEO of the International Economic Development Council, regarding the timely study of the economic impact of the wildfires.

- Daniel Alesch, one of the nation’s most renowned experts on long-term recovery and Emeritus Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

This forum is ideal to provide a foundation for business leaders on disaster assistance and response, and will include local chambers of commerce, economic recovery experts, and technology, retail, financial services, insurance, housing and real estate, marketing, and travel and tourism sector recovery specialists.

Following the forum, Mary Wong, President of the Office Depot Foundation and Lisa Hamilton, President of the UPS Foundation will host the BCLC Disaster Assistance and Recovery Working Group semi-annual meeting.
