President's Update

By Ruben Barrales, President & Chief Executive Officer

As the economy slows and uncertainty is rampant in the business community, now more than ever, participation in Chamber events and programs is a critical way to stay involved and give your business a needed boost.

The Chamber provides numerous opportunities for our members to connect with one another, to better understand the issues affecting our regional economy, and to improve the business climate in San Diego.

During the month of December, the Chamber will host two receptions to give our members a chance to make new business contacts.  On December 11, the Chamber’s “Circle of Influence” members will be hosted at the Red Circle nightclub in the heart of San Diego’s Gaslamp district.  And, on December 18, members are invited to the Chamber’s holiday “Business after Five” reception at the Mission Valley Resort.

The Chamber has also added more programs though the Chamber Academy to help our members understand what is happening in the economy and review important business skills that can be helpful during these economic times.  The Chamber Academy recently held a discussion with leading economists at University of San Diego to learn more about current economic conditions and implications for our members’ businesses.  On December 9, we will hold a forum on recent developments in the health care industry.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, 3, the Chamber will hold its annual “Fireside Chat” with San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders for a conversation about what is in store for San Diego’s business community.  I hope you can join us for an informal and relaxed discussion as well as Q&A with San Diego’s Mayor.

Visit www.sdchamber.org for updated listings of all Chamber events.  I hope to see you over the next few weeks.
