Board Member Bio: Theresa Drew, Managing Partner, Deloitte & Touche LLP
Theresa Drew serves as Managing Partner of the San Diego practice of Deloitte & Touche LLP, one of the largest accounting firms in San Diego. As the only female managing partner of a Big Four accounting firm in San Diego, and one of only a few across the country, Theresa has proven her leadership skills within a largely male dominated profession. Theresa is a known leader within the San Diego business community. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the YMCA of San Diego, the San Diego Chapter of Young Presidents’ Organization, BIOCOM, and is Chairman of the San Diego Symphony Board of Directors. She recently served as the 2005 Campaign Chair for United Way of San Diego County, which raised more than $24 million to help San Diegans in need. During Theresa’s successful 30-year career in the accounting profession, she has received various regional and national recognitions. The San Diego Natural History Museum recently presented Theresa and Deloitte with the 2008 “Dos Aguilas” Award to recognize bi-national cooperation and community service within the San Diego/Tijuana border region. Theresa was also recognized by Beta Alpha Psi (the honorary accounting fraternity) as the 2005 Professional of the Year. UCSD Athena presented Theresa with the 2005 Pinnacle Award in recognition of her efforts to hire, mentor and promote women within a professional services organization. Theresa was also recognized as one of the “Ten Coolest Women” from San Diego’s Girl Scouts, for serving as a role model for girls. In 2004, the San Diego Business Journal honored Theresa with its prestigious Women Who Mean Business Award. In 1995, Theresa received the Outstanding Woman CPA of the Year Award from the American Woman’s Society of CPAs, a national recognition for her contributions both to the accounting profession and to the advancement of women within the profession. Theresa joined Deloitte & Touche in 1979, after having graduated with highest honors from Northern Arizona University. Since graduation, she has maintained her support of the university, having served on the Professional Advisory Board to the Accounting Department and as a member of the Board of Directors of the NAU Foundation. In 1997, Theresa received the NAU Centennial Alumni Award from the College of Business Administration at NAU in recognition of her outstanding achievements in business, as well as her support of NAU. Theresa, her husband, Douglas, a television news consultant, and their ten-year-old son, Alexander, enjoy being part of the San Diego community.
