Board Report The December 18, 2008, San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors meeting was the annual organizational meeting, and included Directors from the 2008 and 2009 Boards.
The guest speaker at this meeting was new San Diego City Councilmember Marti Emerald. Councilmember Emerald gave her synopsis of issues for the coming year, including the city budget, revenue enhancements, the importance of solar and other sustainable technologies and public/private partnerships.
The Board voted to support the Active Transportation Campaign, an effort to include federal resources for each of 40 cities around the country in the next federal transportation reauthorization bill. They also supported the Healthcare Committee’s Statement on Vision and Priorities for 2009.
Additionally, the Board voted to urge the State Legislature to take a reasoned and measured approach, minimizing impacts to essential public services; to act on the state budget as soon as possible; and to provide flexibility on categorical funds to maximize local school district control.
