San Diego City Council Approves City Recycling Ordinance

On November 13, the San Diego City Council approved the City Recycling Ordinance (CRO) in its second reading, with the support of the San Diego Chamber of Commerce.  Recycling is now required at home and at work in San Diego. We have all been looking for an opportunity to show we are responsible businesses, and are committed to our beautiful city, its people and the environment. The CRO, which is a product of a collaborative work between the City and many organizations such as ours, will allow us to do just that.

On November 2 and 3, the Chamber’s Water Committee was invited by the Metropolitan Water

District of California (MWD), in partnership with the San Diego County Water Authority (CWA), to fly to Sacramento and tour the State Water Project-San Joaquin Delta to learn firsthand how dependent San Diego’s water supply is on a “healthy” Delta.

In October, I shared several tips on how to instantly increase your company’s credibility. Several members jumped right in and have already made strides to better align their brand with the Chamber’s image. This month I am concentrating on preparing for 2008. December is always an interesting month. Productivity for many businesses typically falls off because of the holidays – especially in the last two weeks of the year.

The San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce hosted our popular annual legislative breakfast, "Straight Talk from Sacramento," on Friday, November 16.  Using our unique proactive method of audience participation, the event provided a direct dialogue between Chamber members and the San Diego County state legislative delegation.  The legislative panel included State Senators Denise Ducheny and Christine Kehoe, and Assembly members Martin Garrick, Lori Saldana and George Plescia.

The Mexico Business Center is pleased to announce two upcoming events, the Seventh Annual International Tribute Awards and the San Diego/Baja California Mission to Mexico. Mexico’s Secretary of Economy Dr. Eduardo Sojo, along with the San Diego Natural History Museum, Project Concern International, Elsa Arnaiz and former Governor Eugenio Elorduy Walther, will be honored by the Mexico Business Center at the “Seventh Annual International Tribute Awards Gala” on Wednesday, December 5.
