Board Report
The San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors met on Thursday, March 27, 2008. The Board took supporting positions on AB 2127, a bill allowing flexible work schedules in businesses with less than 25 employees, and on SB 1539, a bill to revise meal period requirements under Section 512 of the Labor Code. The Board also voiced a strong commitment to support the recommendations of the Chamber's Public Policy committees to develop a plan identifying potential solutions to the countywide aggregate shortage, and to raise public awareness about the issue.
The featured speaker was San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister who spoke to the improved property tax form and the implementation of easier payment methods. Additionally, the Treasurer-Tax Collector's office has implemented a Local Banking Initiative that provides for investing county funds in local banks.
Mike Niggli, COO of SDG&E, reported on the status of the Sunrise Powerlink. The Board reaffirmed its support for this vital infrastructure project, which will help bring reliable and "green" renewable energy to San Diego.
