SDSU Selected To Play Host To 2009 NCAA Women’s Basketball First & Second Rounds

Four schools to travel to Cox Arena in March 2009

The NCAA has announced that San Diego State University and Cox Arena at Aztec Bowl will play host to the 2009 NCAA Women’s Basketball First & Second Rounds.  SDSU was one of eight additional venues selected for the championships by the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Committee, which voted last summer to expand from eight to 16 first- and second-round sites, beginning in 2009.  The championships will take place on March 21 and 23, 2009, and will feature four schools vying to advance to the NCAA regionals.

Cox Arena has served as the host site for three other NCAA championship events since the facility opened in the fall of 1997, including the 2001 and 2006 Men’s Basketball First & Second Rounds and the 2001 Women’s Volleyball Final Four.  SDSU has played host to NCAA women’s basketball games three times previously in Peterson Gym in 1984, 1994 and most recently in 1995.
