Gaslamp Quarter Historical Foundation
Education, History and Culture
The Gaslamp Quarter Historical Foundation is the “curator” of the Gaslamp Quarter—a 16 ½ block district listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Through its operation of the William Heath Davis House Museum and Park, the Gaslamp Quarter Historical Foundation has promoted the educational, historical, and cultural development of the historic Gaslamp Quarter for over 25 years.
About the William Heath Davis House
The William Heath Davis House is the oldest surviving structure in downtown San Diego. The house is the only known remaining example of the 1850 pre-fabricated houses imported by Mr. Davis from Maine. The architecture is modeled after a New England family home—it has two stories, ship-lap siding, and a gabled roof. Rooms in the house have been decorated and arranged to reflect the visions and times of William Heath Davis and Alonzo Horton, the two most noted figures in San Diego’s history.
Tour the museum house Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Walking tours of the historic Gaslamp Quarter are offered every Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
