Mayor Sanders Dialogues with Chamber Members

The San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual "Fireside Chat" with Mayor Jerry Sanders yesterday, December 2, 2009 at the Marriott Hotel & Marina in downtown San Diego.

The program gave Chamber members and some of San Diego’s most influential business leaders the opportunity to engage in an intimate and informative dialogue on local policy issues with our city’s chief executive.  The discussion was followed by a live Q&A session.

The program focused mainly around the presentation Mayor Sanders made this week on cuts needed to balance the City budget for the current and next fiscal years.  The Mayor thanked the City Council for their hard work and noted the difficult choices and tremendous amount of planning that went into creating this mid-year budget, particularly regarding cuts to city services such as parks and recreation, fire and police forces.  Mayor Sanders also responded to questions from the audience, covering topics such as the City’s reserve policy, solar initiative, civic projects like the convention center, and the possibility of a Chargers stadium in the East Village downtown.  As always, the Mayor’s candor and wit made for a successful event.

Special thanks to sponsors for this event: SAIC (Title sponsor), AT&T, Bridgepoint Education, California Western School of Law, Chevron, ESET, Kaiser Permanente, Life Technologies, The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, Neighborhood House Association, Nuffer Smith Tucker, Scripps, Sempra Energy, Solar Turbines, The Irvine Company, Union Bank, Viejas Enterprises, and Walmart.
