The amendments that allow hotel projects to be appealable to the City Council on any basis, even if they are fully consistent with the existing Community Plan and PDO. If passed, the measure will increase building costs, stifle development and revitalization in downtown San Diego, and cost the region thousands of jobs. "Our current process works because developers know that if projects meet standards, they'll be approved within six to eight months," said Chamber President and CEO Ruben Barrales. "These amendments open the process up to ambiguity and discourage critically needed development downtown. In these difficult economic times, we must do all we can to encourage builders and developers to do business in our region."
